Things to do in the Paraná Delta
The Paraná Delta is a network of wooded channels and inhabited islands reached from Tigre, about 30 km north of central Buenos Aires and roughly an hour away by the Mitre line train or the scenic Tren de la Costa.
It is not a rainforest and there is no jungle canopy to speak of: expect flat river landscapes, willow and poplar groves, and stilt houses (palafitos) standing over the water, reached only by boat.
Lanchas colectivas run scheduled routes along the main channels, while tourist catamarans work fixed sightseeing loops; either way, a trip on the water generally runs one to three hours depending on the circuit chosen. Departure times and fares change with the season and the operator, so check them on arrival at Tigre's boat stations rather than relying on a fixed schedule.
