Things to do in La Plata

La Plata is a distinct city in its own right, not another name for the Río de la Plata, the river the capital sits on — the confusion is common enough to state plainly. 5 hours by car or by train from Constitución.

The city was laid out from scratch in the 1880s on a strict grid cut through by diagonal avenues, a plan best appreciated on foot around Plaza Moreno. Its main landmark is a neo-Gothic cathedral with twin towers over 100 metres tall, free to enter, with paid access to the towers and crypt (a few euros).

A half-day covers the centre; adding the natural history museum makes it a full day.
